The Reformed Church of Bushkill traces its history from 1737, when a group of Reformed churches was established in the Delaware Valley. The first church building was erected in 1832 on a lot donated by Henry Peters, approximately two-and-a-half miles north of our present location. The church building was rebuilt in 1874 (the white clapboard church by the blinking light on Route 209). Bushkill Outreach, our area’s assistance center, now occupies the old church. Beyond that, not a lot of history is known about the church - many early documents were lost in a couple of fires down through the years.

We take our beliefs very seriously. Faith based on nothing is worth nothing. We care about our theological underpinning so much that in 2012 we changed denominations, seeking a denominational home that matched our beliefs. We found it in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church which proclaims, In Essentials… Unity; In Non-Essentials… Liberty; In All Things… Charity.

Temple Israel
Address: 711 Wallace St, Stroudsburg, PA 18360
Phone: (570) 421-8781

Temple Israel of the Poconos traces its history back to Yom Kippur 1919, when nine men met at Louis Nadelman's Main Street home to conduct the first religious service of the Jewish congregation. Two weeks later, Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Abeloff opened their home for Succot Festival services with Torahs borrowed from Congregation B'nai Abraham in Easton.

From that time until today, Temple Israel is proud to be known as "The Jewish Address of the Poconos." Our Rabbi is a sensitive, caring and joyful presence who cares for the needs of young and old alike with love, hope and dignity.
